Setting Boundaries in a World That Never Stops
Keynote: Setting Boundaries in a World That Never Stops
Theme
Always available. Always reachable. Always feeling like there is still something left to do.
For many people, this is no longer just a busy period , it has become a permanent way of functioning.
In this keynote, Elke Van Hoof explains how this state of constant availability gradually develops, what it costs the brain, the body, and attention, and above all, how to build a healthier relationship with time, energy, and personal boundaries.

Session Content
Setting boundaries sounds simple in theory. Yet many people continue pushing beyond their limits without even realizing it.
Saying “yes” becomes automatic, even when exhaustion is already present. Many stay available late into the evening, reopen their laptop “just for a few minutes,” or feel guilty the moment they slow down.
And most of the time, this has nothing to do with a lack of willpower.
Over time, the brain learns certain patterns: staying available, pushing through fatigue, being constantly flexible… In many work environments, these behaviors are rewarded and associated with commitment or performance.
Little by little, slowing down starts to feel uncomfortable.
Saying “no” can even trigger stress or guilt, even when we rationally know it would be necessary.
In this keynote, Elke Van Hoof explains how these mechanisms develop and why so many people today feel unable to truly disconnect.
She also offers a different way of looking at work-life balance.
Not as the endless pursuit of perfect balance, but as the ability to make more conscious choices about where we invest our time, attention, and energy.
Because setting boundaries is neither a luxury nor a weakness.
It is an essential skill for protecting our energy, focus, and mental health in a world that never stops.
What this keynote brings
- A better understanding of the mechanisms that make boundaries so difficult to set
- A healthier and more realistic perspective on work-life balance
- Greater awareness of what truly drains mental energy
- Practical tools to slow down, regain perspective, and set boundaries without guilt

The future doesn't demand blind speed, but conscious steps. And those steps begin with a critical mind.
Day One attitude
The greatest source of exhaustion is not always the workload itself. Often, it is the uncertainty that comes with it. A reorganization that never seems to become concrete. Expectations that keep shifting. The feeling of investing a great deal of effort without a clear sense of direction. These situations place a considerable burden on our mental energy.
Making Stress Work
Stress is not something we solve simply by trying to have less of it. In this keynote, participants discover how stress works biologically, why it can sharpen some people while exhausting others, and above all, how to better regulate their own response to stress.
